In the absence of birds, should you see what seems to be a tiny shower of spray in the distance, close to the surface, close with it. It may well be the frantic leaping of a vast school of bait fish trying desperately to escape the slashing game fish underneath. The mackerel will strike your streamer fly with such ferocity that they will imbed the hook beyond the bard and promptly bore down, ripping off line at an alarming rate. Besides, the dry-fly man hasn't a slip-drag clutch to neutralize his errors.
