Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

From your vantage point also look for rocky places where kelp or some form of seaweed is growing, within casting distance from the shore. Rocks are always good lurking places for fish, and I've yet to see a broken, rocky coastline that isn't productive. But mind the tides. Don't get yourself isolated on a rock with the tide coming in. Deep water off points or jetties with fast-running currents and tide rips can be excellent locations, too. Coastal spinning is usually best during a rising tide, but it can also be very good on the falling tide, outside of inlets where fish wait for food to be carried through the narrows. As a result of this tidal action, fishing results may change rapidly. As the tide goes out or comes in, currents change, and a spot that is hotter than a pistol at high tide may be colder than a clam within an hour. If so, change location. Search for an inlet and cast into eddies and currents of the tide, just as you would a fresh-water stream. Work your lure alongside obstructions, on the shady side, preferably. If you are fishing the rocky wall of a river mouth, let your lure go down as you would in fishing a ledge in a lake.
