Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

Purposely, I've been saving the narrows for late-afternoon fishing. This is a fine spot to take advantage of moving fish. In foraging up and down a lake shore, fish must congregate, obviously, to pass through such narrows. Mathematically, more cruising fish must be found here per cubic yard than in any other part of the lake. Hence it may be highly profitable for us to anchor the boat and work over what trout, salmon and bass may be going through. Similarly, points of land jutting out into a lake are good congregating areas. That tried, let's fish the weed beds. It was downright careless of us not to have tried them sooner. Remember those darning needles? That meant that a hatch was on. It meant, too, that big fish were below, gorging on their helpless cousins who never had a ghost of a chance to make the surface with these lunkers behind them. A vertically retrieved nymph might have taken those lunkers a little earlier. A more steady hatch, though, ought to be coming off those sunken logs where the lake drains. Around such logs, aquatic life usually abounds, and throughout a warm day, stone, caddis or dragonfly nymphs will continue to hatch freely.
