Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

(18C) It is possible to troll for big fish, way down deep with a light spinning outfit. Simply lower an independently hung weight to which a clothespin is attached. Then, at some distance, 40 feet or so, troll your lure with your line running through the jaws of the clothespin. When the fish strikes, he will free your line. Raise the weight and fight the fish, unencumbered, with a light outfit. Man, that's sport supreme! Enough for the resting spots and the highways. For our devices, the more important question is: Where are their feeding stations? Usually, resting and feeding stations are the same, or very near together. As to be expected, the fish prefer to stay in slow water but near enough to fast water so that the current can deposit food at their front door. And there, where fast water meets slow, is where you'll usually find the big fish sitting down to his daily fare. Sometimes there is a clue, not always, in picking out this hot spot. In big water, where fast food-bearing water meets slow resting- water, there's usually a triangular area on the surface filled with small jumpy wave water, pointed waves that move up and down and get exactly nowhere. By the very nature of the water's action, these areas are usually near deep gouged-out pools, or near boulders, or near an undercut bank so that the fish has his personal foxhole near by.
