Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

When fishing from a boat, cast your lure occasionally on the bank itself, particularly if it seems to have an undercut big enough to harbor a fish, and then hop it off, rest, reel; pause, reel, all of which adds to the interest of the lure and its appeal to the fish which may be ogling it. With a surface plug, the retrieve has not yet been invented which is slow enough. If you'll take five minutes to retrieve each cast, you'll fill your limit in large fish in just half the time. In making your casts from shore, let your lure sink clear to the bottom. Retrieve it in short pulls, lifting it off the bottom by raising your rod each time. Keep this up until you can see your lure. If no fish is following, don't waste time. Reel in quickly for another cast. In the last analysis, the proportion of time your lure is in productive areas determines the proportion of action you have. However, when your lure lifts from the water let it dangle an instant or two to untwist your line. If a lake has a cliff, there'll usually be a ledge slightly below the water's surface with broken boulders in the deep water below that. Retrieve the lure, letting it flutter and sink occasionally, along the entire length of the ledge at various levels, including the bottom level among the rocks, and once, again, with varying retrieves.
