That which sets the accomplished spin angler apart from the mere distance caster is the attainment of accuracy and unbelievable delicacy in depositing the lure on the water with a slip-dive finish. With the delicate angler, the lure will barely spat the water, and will get to work immediately. The trick, of course, is to extract the momentum from the lure inches above the water. To do this, slow up the lure's flight when it is still in the air by touching your index finger to the ballooning line. Then, when the lure is just inches above the target, kill it dead. By raising the rod tip at this exact instant, you can make the lure slip-dive into the water. To put the lure to work as soon as the blade bites into the water, begin to turn the handle of the reel slowly with the left hand just before it hits the surface. Needless to say, it takes timing to bring this off delicately. But it's this delicacy combined with accuracy with the various casts which will entice the shy, big fish, truly the big ones, to take your offering.
