Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

9A 9B Figure 9. With the very lightest of spinning lures it is possible to add anywhere from 10 to 15 feet by making a combination under- and overhand cast (9A). Let the lure dangle from 30 to 36 inches. Sweep it back with a sidearm job. Come forward, without pausing, in an overhand cast. Reach well up as you finish off your cast so that your hand, holding the rod, is about 30 inches beyond your face. In this cast, the lure will describe a rising half circle before it leaves the rod. The intent is to get distance with only the lightest of lures. For soft baits, a shallow U cast imparts a smooth delivery which will take the bait out without injury (9B). Begin the cast behind you with a sidearm, almost as high as your shoulder. As you bring it forward, pouring on power, dip it down, and then raise it again almost to shoulder height before releasing it so that it will float out without even a suggestion of a jerk. This will give distance to even the so/test of baits, something no other piece of tackle yet devised can impart. Wind presents ugly problems to the light-lure addict. When casting into the wind, get as low to the water as you can with the side cast, either from the right or left side. The solution is: Keep line and lure traveling in the flattest trajectory possible. Stop the lure in flight to take the wind-blown belly out of the gossamer line.
