Fresh and Salt Water Spinning

Figure 7. Once the overhand cat (7A, top) is mastered, the others will come easily. Study the figure of my friend, Rex Briggs, then align your rod with a spot which is exactly 2 feet above the target from a 10-o'clock position with the -ounce lure dangling 6 inched from the tip top. You should be comfortable, relaxed. The reel should be ready fro casting with the pick-up finger open. The line should be under the ball of your right forefinger tip. Concentrate upon that spot 2 feet above the target. Bring the rod back fast from A to B, and while the rod is flexed backward, drive forward twice as fast, hesitating just the briefest instant between the two motions until the line is pretty straight behind. As your line comes forward to the 10-o'clock position, let the line slop off your finger tip. Your line will shoot out like a bullet. For accuracy, follow through by sighting 2 feet above the target while lowering the rod to 9:30, coming to rest at C. Stop the lure over the target by dropping the forefinger on the reel spool. To cast a bass bug or a weighted popper from 40 to 60 feet with accuracy and to make your desired splash, start the rod from a 3-o'clock position behind you (7B), then sweep it forward overhear, using a little wrist snap to build up additional power. Release at 11-o'clock, following through to 9:30 for accuracy.
