It is false economy to cram your lure box so full of lures that you have a hard time deciding which one to use, but it is false economy, too, to spend time and money getting to your favorite fishing spot, and yet be too underequipped with lures to exploit it. That which stamps the efficient experienced angler is the appropriateness of the gear he carries and the small about of fishing tackle he leaves to collect dust on his shelves. 2. TECHNIQUE HOW TO CAST Within thirty minutes the beginning spinman should be able to cast well enough to take fish occasionally. However, as with anything deceptively easy, there are refinements, and these are the ones which produce heavy fish. Let's be about our spinning. Put up your rod. Attach reel, pendulum fashion, spool forward, on the underside of your rod handle. Align the reel with the guides and secure the reel base firmly with the two movable rings. Having the reel handle on the left may feel awkward for the first ten minutes but once so used, it will prove convenient and pleasant. See Figure 5 to learn how to handle the friction drag, and Figure 6 to learn how to make the lure enter the water properly. For the preliminaries to casting also see Figure 6.
