In selecting lures, stick pretty close to those which get down to the bottom of the stream where the big fish hang out and do most of their feeding. But even so, use lures as light as possible and lines which are fine. The success of these smaller, lighter lures over the old-style, bulky, noisy plugs is already pretty well established. The nearly noiseless, smaller lures, which strike the water softly, have a far greater big-fish score. But keep in mind, too, the casting distance desired and the lure's wind resistance. Occasionally these considerations will call for a heavier lure, but a heavy lure's flight can be canceled by a vibrating rod tip. A light lure, too, can be slowed by a heavy line.
