Reckoned by old-fashioned bamboo-rod standards, these varying specifications for light, medium or heavy salt-water rods might indeed have posed a most difficult problem, but with the advent of the modern hollow glass rod, the steel rod, too, although it is less adaptable, a much wider range of duties can be performed by one rod! Regardless of load, the glass rod will neither set nor break. Its proven power, resiliency, lightness and long-lasting qualities are truly remarkable. As with other refined types of fishing, the beginning spinman will hear a lot of loudly proclaimed nonsense about balanced equipment. There is no such thing as balance in a spinning outfit, really. Change lure or line or reel or current or wind and what happens? Poof away goes your imagined delicate balance. And who knows what happens to balance when a big fish swings on. Instead of balance look toward matching your outfit so that it will efficiently perform the job to be done. With light reel use light rod, light line and light lure when possible. So doing will assure more pleasure.
